This month’s Business Highlight is Ric Arrigoni the founder of Hush Hair Salon, Inc. Rick moved to Manhattan Beach in 1991 attracted by the charm and personality of our beach side community. Ric opened his first salon in early 2001. He has since opened two more salons all in downtown Manhattan Beach. Ric has been a stylist for 20 years and has worked salons in Marina del Rey, Santa Monica and finally his home in Manhattan Beach.
He has had a chance to study with some of the world’s finest hairstylists including Luigi Murenu and Orlando Pita. Ric sought out the finest products in the world, Keratase and Shu Umeura, to enhance his high quality salons. Ric continues to polish his skills at every posssible opportunity and leads his staff in the pursuit of higher education on a weekly basis.
We asked Ric to answer a few questions for us regarding his business and advice for other entrepreneurs:
1) How could we make doing business here easier?
If there was one thing Ric could change about doing business in downtown Manhattan Beach, it would be to have 3 hour parking meters around the restaurants, salons and retail stores. Many times our appointments last 1 1/2-2 hours and it would be nice for our clients to have more time to spend downtown.
2) How did you engage the community when you first started?
As a successful business owner, Ric feels the need to give back to the community. He and his salons have become involved with numbers charities, including the Walk with Sally Charity with which he had the first White Light White Night event at the Hush Hush Hair Salon, and is co-founder of “Taste of the South Bay” with the LA Kings benefiting the Kings Care Foundation which started 7 years ago at the Hush Up Salon.
3) What would you recommend for prospective business owners?
In terms of prospective business owners, Ric would recommend a good business plan in place as well as involvement in the local community. We live in a small town and our customers are also our neighbors and like spending money with people and shops they know who give back to the city.
