New Year, New You
January is a great time to look into how we are presenting and promoting our own brand to the outside world. For many of us we continue to utilize the same old tools we have through the years expecting increased results even though we have done nothing new and exciting. Make a commitment to yourself and your business to move the needle this year and start off fresh.
One place to look might be the headshot we have out there. If you do not have a professional headshot today should be the day to seriously consider it. The world we live in is vastly different than it was just five years ago. Everyone has a LinkedIn, Facebook, or other social platform they use to promote themselves. If you were to receive a call to be on the Chamber radio show or have an interview in the newspaper it is almost expected you have a quality photo. Do you look like the person in the photo you provide, or like many do we still have seventies lapels?
Does the messaging we use meet the consumer of today where they expect to find it or are we still using channels we are comfortable with? If you are trying to reach millennials it is probably best if you are not advertising in the yellow pages. Consulting with a marketing professionals is no longer something only the Fortune 100 do, it is something everyone needs to consider. Investing today can reap tremendous rewards tomorrow.
The medium in which we deliver our presentations are also moving forward at a precipitous rate. Remember the days of mailing a ten pound deck to a prospective client, or even more recently a flash drive? People just don’t have the time anymore. It might be time to boil that presentation down to a minute long video you can send a digital link to.
Let’s all commit to really assessing where we are and where we want to be. Maybe we cannot change all the areas we want to at once but start with the ones that are easiest for you.
