On Tuesday June 9th the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce held one of our quarterly Business Education Sessions at Kinecta Federal Credit Union. The event was Benefits Available to Your Business. The focus was on bringing businesses together with the many programs out there designed to reduce costs on a company or increase it’s overall productivity. In most cases these programs are free of charge or at low cost to the business, and yet many do not take advantage of them due to not being aware of them.
The speakers were Chris Cagle of the South Bay Workforce Investment Board, Star Van Buren with the Small Business Development Center, and Mason Hawthorne and Anthony Perez with US Bank. Mr. Cagle presented on assisting companies in meeting their employee hiring, education, and retention goals in an efficient and cost effective manner. The SBWIB has a varying slate of programs which included subsidized labor, complimentary staff development among others. These programs benefit both the employer and the employee in that they often return people to the workforce and assist companies in developing the talent they need. Star Van Buren presented on the many programs the SBDC is able to bring to the local community as a branch of the Small Business Administration. The bevy of tools the Small Business Development Center hosted by El Comino College has at it’s disposal makes them one of the best resources a company in any stage of development could look to. In addition to the many guidance and supportive programs you might be aware of there are also opportunities to work with SBDC on finding financing, strategic planning, and operational excellence. Lastly the two gentleman from US Bank were able to share how they are able to work with small businesses on banking services, lending programs, and community programs. US Bank has become the number two bank with regards to SBA lending and is eager to assist in making sure you are partnered with the correct product for your situation.
