Ozzie Martinez Named Chief Administrative Officer of Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center
HARBOR CITY, CA, February 26, 2015 —Osvaldo (Ozzie) Martinez was selected to serve as Kaiser Permanente South Bay’s new chief administrative officer (CAO) earlier this month, just as the organization moved into its new North Hospital on the Harbor City campus. Martinez will oversee medical group operations at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center, as well as Kaiser Permanente medical offices in Carson, Torrance, Gardena, Long Beach, Lomita and Harbor City.
“I am excited about Kaiser Permanente South Bay’s future with Ozzie Martinez in this new role, and I know that his energy and innovative thinking will take us to new heights along our journey to best-in-nation care,” said Dr. Barbara Carnes, area medical director. “He has a proven track record of performance improvement in quality, access to care and service. Ozzie also brings a strong background in innovation and has already helped us transform our care delivery model through his work on video and telephone doctor visits.”
Martinez, who has been on Kaiser Permanente’s staff for thirteen years, joins Dr. Carnes and Lesley Wille, RN and executive director, in the medical center leadership team for Kaiser Permanente South Bay. Prior to this appointment, Martinez served as assistant medical group administrator for more than five years, leading many specialty and ancillary departments such as Emergency, Psychiatry, Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging.
“This is an exciting time for the South Bay Medical Center,” said Martinez. “We’re growing rapidly to ensure that our members across the South Bay, Harbor area and Long Beach have convenient access to high-quality, affordable health care. In addition to the recent grand opening of our new North Hospital, we’re looking forward to opening our first medical office in Manhattan Beach later this year.”
Martinez holds a master’s degree in Public Health from UCLA and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Chapman University. He is a two-time past recipient of the prestigious Kaiser Permanente James A. Vohs Award for Quality, recognizing his contributions to proactive office encounter and breast cancer screening programs. Martinez lives in Huntington Beach with his wife, Melissa, and their two daughters.
