Hey Chamber Members!! We NEED volunteers!
Yup, we asked for them. Volunteers needed.
You’re probably thinking, “my time is valuable and volunteering for something other than my business is taking away from my bottom line!” Know what? You’re right. You’re time is valuable and because of that we understand that you dedicating your time beyond the realm of your office – whether its in a building, at home, or out in the market – we need to make sure we as a Chamber don’t waste it and we can offer you some valuable Return On Time Invested (ROTI).
Okay…so now you’re probably thinking one of two things: “Eh, I’m still not interested” or (and hopefully it’s the OR) “What is that return exactly?” If you thought the first thing stop reading and go back to checking emails. If your curiosity is peaked keep reading!
There are probably three key returns to considerif you are even entertaining the idea of volunteering on a Chamber committe. The first and most important return is EXPOSURE, exposure for your business and exposure for you as a professional to a large network of people. Although email and texting are leading the way on how we communicate the days of a good handshake and the exchange of a business card or two are not entirely gone. We live and work in a community where it’s all about who you know (in fact it’s probably safe to say the whole of LA functions in much the same way). Becoming a Chamber committee volunteer gets you noticed and formally introduces you to a growing membership base which can connect you to people you can potentially do business with in the long run.
A close second to the exposure thing is a VOICE. So often we have ideas or opinions on how something should work or run or function and most of the time we share our opinion and continue on our merry way. Being a part of committee gives people a face to your voice and allows you the opportunity to truly make changes and improvements that cannot be done solely within the four walls of the Chamber’s small office.
Lastly, becoming a Chamber member is easy. Staying a Chamber member is easy. Becoming an active Chamber member is a CHALLENGE. You’re challenged to step up your game and to really meet all those new people you said you would or attend that event that you couldn’t really see yourself attending in the past. It challenges us to manage time between our individual companies and being of service to the community where we do business and where we need business to come from. It challenges you to use your current skill set and potentially learn a new one. It’s a challenge that pushes you to be a better sales person, a better networker, and a better proactive member of our business community.
The MB Chamber, well any Chamber for that matter, can only be really great if it has a dedicated group of volunteers committed to promoting the Chamber’s efforts and outreach. Our Chamber has an extremely strong group of people who currently participate in committees and who are paving the way to make the benefits of being a member real and tangible. What the Chamber truly needs is MORE…more talented people who can help shape how we continue to function as an association and organization who serve a membership the best way possible.
